Thus, to woo the Audience’s demands to watch all the epic shows of Doordarshan, Prasar Bharti Launched DD Retro. DD Retro launched by Prasar Bharti will telecast all the classic popular shows of Doordarshan.

Thought Behind the Launch of DD Retro
Doordarshan never expected such a massive response by the Audience. Doordarshan saw an enormous growth of 650% in its viewership after the retelecast of Ramayan. This feat has not been achieved by any channel ever.
The decision to showcase Mahabharat and Shaktimaan too proved to be a masterstroke.
Not just Television but Doordarshan’s Youtube channel too saw a massive 100% growth in the streaming of its videos.
This massive response by the Indian Audience forced the creatives at Prasar Bharti to launch DD Retro, the 4th generation entertainment entity.

The channel was tested rigorously for a week to see the proper uninterrupted transmission. During that period, it showcased classical music and bhajans. After the successful trial, the channel has been launched by Prasar Bharti officially.
The channel is aired at LNB Frequency 09750-10600 with Vertical Polarity on GSAT 15 satellite.
Which Shows will be telecasted on DD Retro
DD Retro will be telecasting classic shows of Doordarshan. These shows will be mostly from the ‘90s, also known as the golden era for Doordarshan. Prasar Bharti wants to recreate the magic with those epic TV shows.

DD Retro is a free to air channel by Prasar Bharti since it is made mandatory by the government ( Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ) to broadcast all the channels of Prasar Bharti by all cable operators and DTH providers.
Due to which, although primarily the channel has been launched officially on Free Dish DTH soon, they will be made available by all Cable and DTH providers.
