Shahrukh khan has been in Bollywood for over 27 years now. His film career is somewhat epic and something which any aspiring actor can dream of. But lately, the charm of Shahrukh Khan seems to fade. So, is this the end of Shahrukh Khan?
Is Shahrukh Khan still “the Badshah Of Bollywood” ??
I remember watching Baazigar Movie as a kid in a single theater ( Single theater of the ’90s were a gem ). There was an immense crowd and people were whistling and shouting the name – Shahrukh, Shahrukh, Shahrukh.
And the songs – Ye kali Kaali aankhein, Kitaben bahut si, etc. were so popular that people started dancing in the theater itself. It was just the beginning of the era of SRK – Shahrukh Khan.
Shahrukh Khan’s journey to the success
The very next movie he was featured in was – Darr. And it proved to be another milestone in the career of Shahrukh Khan. He was now an established anti-hero of Bollywood who was liked more than the hero of the film. SRK was rewarded for his immense popularity and was offered a movie – Karan Arjun as a co-star of Salman Khan. And this also proved to be the biggest hit of the year.
It became a general notion that Shahrukh Khan has a Midas Touch and the movie he featured in, will be a Superhit. He proved the notion correct with his every upcoming film.
DDLJ ( Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge) released in the year 1995, broke all records at the Box Office. It was such a massive movie at that time that it even broke the records of India’s most prominent movie Sholay in gross profits and screening duration. Shahrukh Khan was now the King of Bollywood and the King of Romance. Ram Jaane, Trimurti, Koyla etc. all later movies established his brand. And he was now quoted as the next Superstar of Bollywood after Mr Amitabh Bachchan.
I remember that my friends used to mimic his style, his dressing, and it was hilarious to watch their desperation for wooing the girls in the class (teenagers, you know).
Success ride of Shahrukh Khan was at its peak. Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Pardes, Dil se, Kuch Kuch Hota hai etc. almost all of his movies were breaking the box office record. This phase of hits and superhits were long-lived, and soon he earned the title – Badshah of Bollywood.
Decline of Shah Rukh Khan
But success tests you as well. And from the past few years, the same can be seen with King Khan too. His recent movies like- FAN, Dilwale, Raees, Zero etc. although got immense pop among the public, but couldn’t collect the numbers on the box office.
Critics started stating that the era of Shahrukh Khan is at its end.
Reason of SRK’s Downfall-
Well, the cinema is changing and so are the audiences. People nowadays have more choices and genres to explore in Hollywood, South Indian Movies and even regional movies. And to be in this cut-throat competition is really tough. Once a dark horse, underDog Akshay Kumar is now the most successful hero and the less highlighted actor like Ayushman Khurrana is now termed as the man with the Midas touch.
If we see the recent filmography of SRK, it can be noted that the movie choice has not been that great for him. He is still confined in his own space, and that is hurting him too. In this era of OTT platforms and immense consumption of foreign productions, an actor will have to come out of his space and choose unique roles and scripts. People have so many options that bringing them to the cinema hall is no more an easy task ( Salman Khan is an exception, and we all admit that).
So, is this the end of Shahrukh Khan-
I still believe that it is not. With so much experience and working, King of Bollywood – Shahrukh khan must be knowing what’s hurting his movies. And no critic can define his commendable work in the film. And the upcoming films scheduled for Shahrukh Khan seems much promising.

SRK is also active in his production house “Red Chilly Films” and is continuously producing web series for Netflix and other OTT platforms. Also, his production is about to release a few movies like Kaamyaab, Hey Raam etc. Thus, his presence can be felt even when he is not facing the camera. And with strong and long list of upcoming movies, it is sure that King Khan will bounce back in the game again.
If you ask me – Is this the end of Shahrukh Khan ??
My Answer– As an audience, it is always a treat to watch Shahrukh Khan. And it is rightly said- “ PICTURE ABHI BAAKI HAI MERE DOST, PICTURE ABHI BAAKI HAI. “
